Bingo Calls and their Meaning

Are you a beginner in the game of bingo? Is that why you cannot recognize the terms the bingo callers are using? Then do not be confused anymore. Here are some of the bingo jargons which callers use to make the game much more interesting:

Valentine's Day - it's a common knowledge that Valentine's Day is on the 14th day of February. Thus, it's easy to remember that Valentine's Day means the number fourteen in bingo.

Sweet Sixteen - this is an obvious one. This number is called as such because it is the age where girls are considered to be sweet and innocent. You can easily remember this because the word sixteen is already part of the term.

Dancing Queen - this term denotes the number seventeen. If you are not familiar with the singing group Abba, you may not easily understand why number seventeen is called as such in bingo. For your information, Dancing Queen is a song from Abba, and some of its lines go like this: "You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen". Now, you understand why bingo callers refer to number seventeen as the Dancing Queen.

Coming of Age - this represents the number eighteen in bingo world. This term is used because eighteen is the age when girls have their debut, which is the signal of their becoming more mature.

Goodbye Teens - in bingo, this means the number nineteen. Although, the number nineteen is still a "teen", it is the last of the group of "teens". That is why when you reach the age of nineteen, you must start to bid your teen years farewell, because on your next birthday, you are no longer a teenager.

Halfway There - this is the number forty-five. Some bingo games are played with ninety numbers, instead of seventy-five. In the games with ninety numbers, halfway means forty-five.

Half a Century - it doesn't take rocket science to figure this one out. How many years are in a century? Of course, there are 100 years in a century, and half of it equals fifty. So in bingo games, when a caller says half a century, you should know that he or she means the number fifty.

Old Age Pension - this jargon means the number sixty-five. The usual retirement age is sixty-five, so that would explain why sixty-five is called the old age pension in bingo. Bingo players understand this easily since most of them are senior citizens already.
